DENVER - If you've ever wanted to display your own artwork and artistic talents in a public place, Arts Street! and the Women of the West Museum are giving you that opportunity on Friday, July 27. On that day from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., neighbors of Northside Park and all Metro Denver residents are invited to a unique opportunity to build a permanent public art piece highlighting messages about wildlife, human interaction with the environment and an important woman of Western history. With instructors and safety glasses available on-site, participants need only bring their artistic talents and their desire to contribute to an important project of the Denver Parks and Recreation Department. Arts Street will also provide entertainment by the Arts Street Jazz Ensemble and light refreshments. Families, neighbors and all residents or visitors in the Denver area are welcome to enjoy this free activity at the park. All youth participating in Arts Street this summer will be participating.

Arts Street!, established through the City and County of Denver Mayor's Office of Art, Culture, and Film and the College of Arts & Media of the University of Colorado-Denver, brings local artists and youth together to provide job training and mentoring through the arts. As part of the Summer 2001 program, the Women of the West Museum is serving as a teaching organization to develop creative and artistic signage at a newly established urban wildlife area that reflects both the natural environment and neighboring historic and contemporary women.
Fifteen ethnically and socio-economically diverse students are participating with nationally recognized sculptor Deborah Grebenar to produce a piece of public art that incorporates creative signage and informational sculptural features. The Colorado Department of Wildlife and the Denver Parks Department have commissioned the artwork.
The Women of the West Museum is a dynamic, collaborative museum whose mission is to discover, explore and communicate the continuing roles of women in shaping the American West. A creator and disseminator of innovative public programs, the organization offers a broad range of traveling and online exhibits, educational programs and community events.
